The irofly system is a robbe development which for the first time makes it possible to control a beginner's helicopter from the robbe range using an iPhone®, iPad® or iPod touch® . The outstanding feature of the irofly system is the 2.4 GHz radio link to the helicopter, in contrast to other smart-phone control systems with infra-red transmission. This system has much greater range than IR transmissions, and is much less susceptible to interference, for example when there are obstacles between transmitter and receiver. The irofly system can also be used to control sophisticated four-channel co-axial and single-rotor helicopters. This means that a roll function is available in addition to the sideways movement of the helicopter.
Two models are available, both of which can be controlled using an iPhone®, iPad® or iPod touch®. For the beginner there is the Arrow 210 irofly: an ultra-stable co-axial helicopter for indoor flying. The Arrow 270 irofly is a good choice for the advanced pilot: this is a single-rotor helicopter which can also be flown outdoors in light winds or calm conditions.
The RC functions climb / descent and yaw are controlled using graphic sticks which are part of the user interface of the irofly app. Pitch-axis (elevator) and roll movements are triggered by tipping the device in the corresponding direction.
